Castellani solution and its use in the management of myringitis granulosa

Castellani solution (paint) is an old medication used in the treatment of granular myringitis. It was used in the

treatment of fungal infections of skin.

Use of this solution was discontinued due to methemoglobinemia when used in children.

Composition:

1. Boric acid

2. Fuschin

3. Resorcinol

4. Phenol

5. Acetone

6. Spirit

7. Water

Now this solution has been used with great degree of success when applied topically in the management of myringitis granulosa.
