Studies performed by Siriluck Kanchanomai etal have managed to unravel the reasons behind the increasing
incidence of neck pain among first and second year under graduate students. The incidence seems to be
alarmingly high when compared with the control group.
The possible reasons for this increasing incidence of neck pain could be:
1. Spending increased time in front of computers
2. Position of computer screen not being at the eye level
3. High position of key board
4. High use of computers for entertainment and gaming
Probable pathophysiology of neck pain in these patients could be:
Extension of neck with increased range of movements
Positions of elbows, knees and ankle during computer use
